5ire (pronounced "fai-er") is a desktop chat assistant for macOS, Windows, and Linux that also acts as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) client. You connect it to OpenAI, Azure, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, Doubao, Grok, DeepSeek, or a local Ollama server, then extend the conversation with tools from MCP servers so the model can read the file system, query databases, fetch remote data, or report system information rather than only answering in text.
MCP servers run locally, so Python, Node.js, and the uv package manager need to be installed before the tools feature is activated. A companion directory, MCPSvr, lists community MCP servers, and a one-click server installation flow can be embedded in third-party websites so a server installs into 5ire from a link.
Documents you add are embedded on-device with the bge-m3 multilingual model and stored as vectors for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), so the assistant can answer from your own files without sending them to a hosting service. The app also tracks API usage and spend per provider, keeps a prompt library with variables, bookmarks conversation content so it survives message deletion, and searches across all conversations by keyword.
