AgentGPT is a browser-based platform for assembling, configuring, and deploying autonomous AI agents. You give an agent a name and a goal; it then works toward that goal by proposing tasks, executing them, and feeding the results back into its next round of planning. The repository is archived and read-only.
The hosted version runs a limited number of GPT-3.5 agent runs per user and ships example agents such as a company research report, a trip planner, and a study-plan generator. A self-hosted deployment consists of a Next.js 13 + TypeScript frontend, a FastAPI backend, and a MySQL database, with a bundled setup CLI that generates the environment configuration for all three.
The agent loop needs an OpenAI API key; a Serper key adds web search and a Replicate token adds image generation, both optional. LLM orchestration is built on LangChain.
Features
- Goal-driven loop: the agent decomposes a goal into tasks, runs them, and plans the next step from the results
- Browser UI: agents are created, watched, and stopped from a web interface rather than a terminal
- Templates and examples: prebuilt agent templates for research, travel planning, and study plans
- Optional tools: web search via Serper and image generation via Replicate
- Stack: Next.js 13, FastAPI, Next-Auth, Prisma and SQLModel, Planetscale MySQL, Tailwind CSS with Headless UI, Zod and Pydantic validation, and LangChain
- Archived: the codebase is read-only and receives no further changes
