Chat2DB Community is a cross-platform database client for Windows, macOS, and Linux that pairs a SQL workspace with an AI assistant. It runs on your machine, and the assistant uses an AI model you connect yourself to generate, explain, and optimize SQL from natural-language requests. It is aimed at developers, database administrators, analysts, and data teams.
It connects to more than 40 relational and non-relational databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Redis, SQLite, Snowflake, BigQuery, Elasticsearch, and Trino. Further databases come through plugins, and a new JDBC database can be added through configuration without code changes.
The workspace covers SQL editing with completion, formatting, execution, saved queries, and history. Database management includes browsing metadata, managing tables and other objects, editing data in place, and ER diagrams. It also imports and exports data and builds dashboards and charts. A separate open-source CLI adds MCP support.
Chat2DB Community is a single-user, local-first application with no user accounts, distributed as a desktop app or a Docker image that serves a browser UI. It encrypts stored datasource passwords and AI model API keys with AES-256-GCM under a per-installation key. An early-preview release adds an optional local agent runtime, Pi Agent, with skills, external MCP servers, and file and terminal tools. Commercial Pro and Enterprise editions add hosted AI services, accounts, sync, and team features.
