01 / Summary

About Ego Lite.

ego lite is a Chromium-based desktop browser shared between a person and their AI agents. Agents run browser tasks in their own Spaces, isolated workspaces inside the same browser, while the person keeps browsing in theirs, so an agent never takes over the user's tabs or mouse. On first launch it can import Chrome data, which gives agents the user's existing logins, cookies, extensions, and bookmarks. It runs on macOS, with Windows in closed beta and Linux on the roadmap.

Agents connect through the ego-browser skill, which works with agent CLIs such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, or a custom one. It exposes the browser as in-page JavaScript functions (snapshot, fill, click, wait, navigate, and capture), so the agent writes one snippet that composes several steps instead of issuing one tool call at a time. Page snapshots, the structured text view that text-only models use to read a page, are produced inside the browser engine and reach into nested and cross-origin iframes, shadow DOM, and third-party widgets.

Each Space can hold its own agent or task, all running in parallel, and the user can see which Spaces have an agent working and take over or stop one at any time. Browsing data stays on the device. The project positions ego lite against browser automation libraries such as Browser Use and agent-browser, which drive a separate browser, and against AI browsers whose built-in agent is the only one allowed to control them, and it reports finishing complex tasks up to 2.5 times faster than agent-browser in its own benchmark.

  • Agent Spaces: each agent works in an isolated workspace inside the same browser, separate from the user's own tabs
  • Parallel tasks: several agents or tasks run at once, each in its own Space
  • Takeover controls: see which Spaces have an agent running, and take over or stop it
  • Chrome import: carries over logins, cookies, extensions, and bookmarks so agents work in logged-in sessions
  • Code-based control: agents call in-page JavaScript functions and compose multi-step actions in one pass
  • Engine-level snapshots: structured page text that reaches nested iframes, shadow DOM, and embedded third-party widgets
  • Agent-agnostic skill: ego-browser connects Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or a custom agent CLI
  • Local data: browsing data and cookies stay on the user's device
