Excalidraw MCP is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets a chat assistant draw hand-drawn style Excalidraw diagrams in response to a prompt, such as a sketch of a cat or an architecture diagram of a user, an API server, and a database. The diagram streams into the conversation as it is drawn, with the viewport camera moving across the canvas, and you can open it fullscreen to edit it interactively.
It is built as an MCP App, an official MCP extension that lets a server return an interactive HTML interface that renders inside the chat instead of a text answer. It works with clients that support MCP Apps, including Claude, ChatGPT, VS Code, and Goose. A hosted remote endpoint is available, it can run locally as a Claude Desktop extension, and you can deploy your own instance to Vercel.
Features
- Streamed drawing: diagrams render progressively in the chat while the assistant draws them
- Camera control: the viewport pans and zooms across the canvas as elements are added
- Fullscreen editing: open the diagram fullscreen and edit it interactively in Excalidraw
- MCP Apps client support: works in Claude, ChatGPT, VS Code, Goose, and other clients that render MCP Apps
- Hosted or self-hosted: use the public remote server, a local Claude Desktop extension, or your own Vercel deployment
