Kimi CLI is an archived terminal coding agent from Moonshot AI. It is no longer maintained, existing installations stop working, and Kimi Code CLI from the same team replaces it. Kimi Code CLI detects Kimi CLI data on first launch and migrates its config, MCP servers, input history, and sessions, while login credentials, MCP authorizations, and plugins are not migrated.
As an agent, Kimi CLI read and edited code, ran shell commands, searched and fetched web pages, and planned and adjusted its actions during execution. A shell command mode let you run commands directly inside the agent, and a Zsh plugin switched the shell into agent mode.
It connected to editors through a VS Code extension and the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), which made it usable as an agent server in Zed, JetBrains IDEs, and other ACP clients. It managed Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers over HTTP, with optional OAuth, or stdio, and also accepted an ad-hoc MCP config file. The repository also holds the archived kosong, pykaos, and kimi-sdk packages.
