Notebooklm Py is an unofficial Python library, CLI, and agent skill for Google NotebookLM (renamed Gemini Notebook in July 2026). It drives NotebookLM's undocumented web API, so it can create notebooks, add sources, chat with them, and generate and download every artifact type the service produces, including several operations the web UI does not offer. Because the APIs are undocumented, they can change without notice, and heavy use may be rate-limited.
The main use is as a grounded research and memory layer that a coding agent drives: NotebookLM's Gemini reads and analyses the sources server-side and answers with citations, while an agent such as Claude Code or Codex orchestrates the calls. Patterns include offloading analysis of many documents, distilling research into a reusable agent skill, generating quizzes as eval sets for a skill, keeping a notebook as persistent cross-session memory, and exposing internal docs to an agent as a cited knowledge base.
Access comes in several forms: an async Python API, a CLI for scripts and CI, an MCP server (local over stdio, or self-hosted as a remote connector for claude.ai and ChatGPT), and a REST server. A skill installs into Claude Code and generic agent skill directories, with bundled Codex instructions. The default transport is NotebookLM's web RPC, and an opt-in Android backend uses the mobile gRPC service with bearer tokens.
