Pan is a self-hosted web dashboard for Hermes Agent. It runs as a standalone Next.js server that bridges the browser to the Hermes runtime, so you can chat with the agent, manage skills, control MCP integrations, inspect memory, and switch between profiles from one interface.
On startup Pan checks whether a Hermes gateway is reachable on the configured port. If not, it spawns the gateway as a child process with health monitoring and automatic restart, using the active Hermes profile. Chat streams through the gateway's OpenAI-compatible SSE endpoint, while skills, memory, and profiles are read from and written to the Hermes home directory directly. A first-launch wizard detects the Hermes home directory, API server, and binary, and installs a pinned Hermes version from the Euraika-Labs fork when none is present.
The server can run in the foreground, as a background daemon with PID and log management, or as a systemd user service on Linux. Login credentials, the Hermes API base URL and key, and a mock mode for when the runtime is unavailable are configured through environment variables.
