SwarmForge coordinates several AI coding agents, each working in its own git worktree and tmux session. Agents pass committed work to each other through durable handoffs, and an operator uses a local dashboard to start work, inspect agents, handle approval gates, answer clarifications, and stop the swarm. Supported agent backends are Codex, Grok, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot.
It ships as products installed by a helper script. A pack is composed into an existing project and runs a fixed pipeline of roles:
| Product | Shape |
|---|---|
| two-pack | coder, cleaner |
| four-pack | specifier, coder, refactorer, architect |
| six-pack | specification, implementation, cleanup, architecture, hardening, and QA roles |
| project-manager | multi-project forge with selectable two-, four-, and six-pack templates and a host lieutenant |
| lieutenant | multi-project forge with one configurable project template and a planning lieutenant |
A forge is installed into an empty directory and manages many projects under one dashboard and a lieutenant agent. A configuration file lists each role, its backend, its worktree, whether it takes tasks one at a time or in batches, and how merged work propagates back to earlier roles.
Agent behavior comes from a composed constitution: shared articles on engineering practice, workflow and worktree discipline, and the handoff protocol, plus pack-specific additions and one prompt per role that defines what the role may change, what it must verify, and where its next handoff goes. Packs cannot replace the shared articles.
Features
- Isolated agents: each role runs in its own git worktree and tmux session
- Durable handoffs: structured send, receive, merge, retry, and completion of committed work between roles
- Operator dashboard: start work, inspect agent panes, approve gates, answer clarifications, and stop the swarm
- Role packs: two-, four-, and six-role pipelines installed into an existing project
- Forges: multi-project hosts with a lieutenant agent that creates and opens project swarms
- Configurable pipeline: per-role backend, worktree, task or batch intake, and back-propagation of merges
- Shared constitution: common engineering, workflow, and handoff rules that packs extend but cannot replace
- Multiple backends: Codex, Grok, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot agents
