01 / About

What Vonage is.

Vonage sells cloud communications services in three groups: unified communications for internal business phone and messaging, contact centre software for support teams, and communications APIs that developers call from their own applications. The API group is what an agent builder uses: voice, messaging, video, and data capabilities reachable over HTTP, so an application can place and receive calls, exchange messages, or run a video session.

Alongside the media APIs, Vonage offers network-derived security and identity checks, positioned for fraud prevention and verification flows rather than for carrying media. For a voice agent the media path is the relevant part: the agent framework serialises audio to and from a Vonage voice or video session and treats it as the telephony transport.

Features

  • Voice APIs: programmatic inbound and outbound calling, usable as the media transport for a voice agent
  • Messaging APIs: send and receive messages across the channels Vonage supports
  • Video APIs: hosted real-time video sessions callable from an application
  • Network and identity checks: mobile network intelligence used for fraud detection and verification
  • Unified communications and contact centre: packaged business phone and support-desk products alongside the developer APIs
