01 / Summary

About Compound Engineering Plugin.

Compound Engineering is a plugin of 36 skills for AI coding agents, built around the idea that each unit of engineering work should make the next one easier. It runs on 14 agent hosts, including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Cline, OpenCode, Qwen Code, Pi, Oh My Pi, and GitHub Copilot.

The core loop has six steps: brainstorm the requirements, plan the implementation, work through the plan, simplify the new code, review the result, and compound the learning by writing it to a solutions folder in the repository. Later brainstorm and plan runs read those notes as grounding, so a lesson captured in one change carries into the next. Most of the effort is meant to go into planning and review rather than execution.

An autonomous skill runs the whole pipeline hands-off: it works from a plan or a debugging fix, simplifies, reviews and applies fixes, captures learnings, runs browser tests, and commits, then pushes, opens a pull request, and watches CI with a bounded repair loop when a remote exists. It does not merge unless you allow it.

Other skills cover strategy and product signals, ideation, debugging, explaining existing behavior, code optimization, prototyping, git and pull request workflows, browser and Xcode testing, and handoffs. Experimental Compound Packs let a team declare shared rules (conventions, security policies, stack-specific guidance) that planning draws on and review enforces across repositories.

  • Core loop: brainstorm, plan, work, simplify, review, and compound skills that chain into each other
  • Knowledge capture: the compound step writes learnings that later plans read as grounding
  • Multi-agent code review: report-only review against the plan before merging, with fixes applied only on request
  • Autonomous pipeline: one skill runs plan to pull request, including browser tests and a bounded CI repair loop
  • Debugging and explanation: skills for investigating bug reports and explaining how existing behavior works
  • Git workflow: skills for commits, pull requests, worktrees, resolving review feedback, and watching pull requests
  • Testing and polish: browser testing, Xcode testing, dogfooding, and UI polish skills
  • Compound Packs (experimental): shared, prescriptive rule folders that planning grounds in and review enforces
  • Cross-host support: installs on 14 agent hosts, including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Cline, OpenCode, and GitHub Copilot
  • Configurable artifacts: plan and solution folders can be relocated under one root per repository
