01 / About

What OpenCode is.

OpenCode is an open-source AI coding agent that runs as a terminal interface, a desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux (in beta), and an IDE extension. It connects to more than 75 LLM providers through Models.dev, including local models, and can sign in with a GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus/Pro account to use those subscriptions; a set of free models is included.

Two built-in agents are switched with the Tab key: build, the default full-access agent for development work, and plan, a read-only agent for analysis and exploration that denies file edits by default and asks before running shell commands. A general subagent handles searches and multistep tasks and can be invoked with @general in a message. OpenCode loads the appropriate language servers for the project automatically, runs multiple sessions in parallel on the same project, and can share a link to any session. It does not store your code or context data.

Features

  • Multiple surfaces: terminal UI, desktop app with tabs, and IDE extension
  • Model choice: 75+ providers via Models.dev, local models, and Copilot or ChatGPT subscription login
  • Build and plan agents: full-access development agent and a read-only planning agent with permission prompts for shell commands
  • General subagent: delegate searches and multistep tasks with @general
  • LSP integration: loads the right language servers for the LLM automatically
  • Parallel sessions: run several agents on the same project at once
  • Session sharing: share a link to a session for reference or debugging
  • Privacy: no code or context data is stored by the service
