Kilo Code is an open-source AI coding agent that runs in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, and a CLI, with a cloud option that runs from the browser. You pick from more than 500 models, switch between them mid-task, and pay the model provider's rate with no markup, either on the project's account or with your own keys. Local models are supported for privacy.
It ships specialized agents you switch between: Code implements and edits code from natural language, Plan designs architecture and writes implementation plans, Ask answers questions about a codebase without touching files, and Debug traces issues. You can also build custom agents. A marketplace installs agents, skills, MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, and plugins to extend what the agent can do.
Beyond code generation across multiple files, it offers inline autocomplete with ghost-text suggestions, self-checking where the agent reviews and corrects its own work, and terminal and browser control to run commands and automate the web. An autonomous mode auto-approves permission prompts for use in CI/CD pipelines, and automated code reviews can run on pull requests. The CLI is a fork of OpenCode adapted to the Kilo platform.
