Jules is an asynchronous coding agent from Google Labs that takes on coding tasks a developer would rather not do themselves, such as bug fixes, version bumps, fixing tests, and building features. A task starts by selecting a GitHub repository and branch and writing a prompt, or by adding a "jules" label to a GitHub issue.
Jules clones the repository into a cloud virtual machine, plans the change using a Gemini model, and presents the plan for approval before making edits. Once the change is made, it produces a diff for review and opens a pull request that a developer approves and merges on GitHub.
Plan tiers vary the number of tasks that can run per day, the number that run concurrently, and access to newer Gemini models: the free tier runs on Gemini 2.5 Pro with up to 15 tasks a day and 3 concurrent tasks, while higher tiers add access starting with Gemini 3 Pro and scale up to 300 tasks a day with 60 running concurrently.
Features
- GitHub-triggered tasks: a task starts from a prompt against a selected repository and branch, or from a "jules" issue label
- Cloud VM execution: the repository is cloned into a cloud virtual machine to make the change
- Plan-then-edit workflow: a plan is proposed for approval before files are edited
- Diff review: changes are presented as a diff before becoming a pull request
- Concurrent tasks: multiple tasks run at once, with the limit varying by plan
- Model access by plan: free-tier tasks run on Gemini 2.5 Pro; paid tiers add access to Gemini 3 Pro
