OpenWork is a desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux for sharing AI workflows, positioned as an open-source alternative to Claude Cowork and Codex. Skills, MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, plugins, and connected services are defined once and reused across tools, teammates, and machines.
The desktop app is optional. A single remote OpenWork MCP server can be added to Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, or any other MCP-compatible client; it exposes two tools, searchcapabilities to find what the signed-in user can use and executecapability to run it, and brings assigned skills, plugins, MCP connections, and Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 capabilities into that agent. Adding the MCP opens a browser to sign in and choose an OpenWork organization.
OpenWork Den is the control plane for teams and organizations. Administrators provision inference, control which members and teams can use each model provider, invite teammates, set desktop policies, restrict local model access, pin allowed app versions, and publish skills and plugins through marketplaces assigned to the organization, a team, or specific people. Agent Plugins and Anthropic-compatible plugins can be imported so their skills and remote MCPs are available through the OpenWork MCP.
A headless web mode runs the UI in a browser against a local openwork-server without the Electron shell.
