OpenWork is a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux where AI agents work on your own files, positioned as an open-source alternative to Claude Cowork and Codex. It is built on OpenCode, keeps files local with cloud use optional, and needs no account for local use. Skills, Claude-compatible plugins, and MCP servers from a Claude Cowork setup carry over.
It works with any model: more than 50 providers through your own API keys, a ChatGPT sign-in, or local models through Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible server. The app covers chat over files and connected tools, a library of skills, and automations.
The desktop app is optional. The OpenWork MCP brings a member's assigned skills, plugins, MCP connections, and Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 capabilities into any compatible agent, such as Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, or Cursor. It exposes four tools: one to search capabilities, one to run a capability, and two to list skills and read a skill file.
OpenWork Den is the control plane for teams and organizations. It provisions inference and controls which members can use each model provider, manages teams and access, sets desktop policies and allowed app versions, and publishes skills and plugins through marketplaces to the whole organization, a team, or individuals. Den can be self-hosted, and its code is source-available under a separate license from the open-source desktop app.
