01 / Summary

About Terminal.

Browser Use Terminal is a terminal user interface (TUI), written in Rust, for running browser agents. It pairs an LLM harness with Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) control of real Chrome sessions, so you can hand the agent a task such as finding a hotel cancellation policy or changing a permission in an admin console, then watch, steer, stop, retry, or resume it from the terminal.

Rust owns the agent loop and durable state, while the browser runtime gives the model direct CDP access to Chrome: page JavaScript, screenshots, files, and helper code. A SQLite event log keeps history, screenshots, artifacts, and traces, and a Ratatui renderer draws the live view. The browser target can be your logged-in Chrome when a task needs real account state, headless Chromium, or Browser Use cloud for clean or remote runs.

The tool also plugs into coding assistants that can run shell commands. A skill teaches Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode the CLI, after which the assistant can execute browser scripts through browser exec; screenshots are saved as files whose paths the assistant reads with its own file tools, and the browser persists between calls.

  • Terminal-driven browser tasks: describe a task in natural language and follow its progress in a TUI with watch, steer, stop, retry, and resume controls
  • Browser targets: your own logged-in Chrome, headless Chromium, or Browser Use cloud, selected with /browser
  • Rust LLM harness: tools, subagents, context compaction, and cancellation handled in the Rust agent loop
  • Raw CDP access for the model: page JavaScript, screenshots, files, and helper code rather than a fixed action set
  • Local event log: SQLite storage of history, screenshots, artifacts, traces, and follow-ups
  • Browser recovery: profiles, a diagnostics doctor, and ownership handling for the CDP runtime
  • Slash commands: /auth, /model, /browser, and /update inside the TUI, plus browser auth status, browser config show, and browser diagnostics from the shell
  • Coding-assistant skill: registers itself with Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode so those assistants can drive the browser through the CLI
  • Telemetry opt-out: anonymous telemetry can be disabled with BUT_TELEMETRY=0
